The Story Behind The Notes

Meet Your Teacher

Hi there! I’m Nikki Fritts—music teacher, storyteller, and certified lover of quirky instruments.

I started piano lessons as a tiny human in South Carolina, with a very patient teacher who agreed to teach me once I could count to five and tell black keys from white. Since then, music has been the thread running through my whole life—from singing in choirs and operas to performing on stage at Carnegie Hall.

I studied voice and piano throughout college, earning a BA in Philosophy with a minor in Music (because I enjoy asking big questions and hitting high notes). I was one class away from finishing my music ed certification when the pandemic hit, and I realized what I really love is teaching one-on-one, helping students grow in their own way.

Now I teach piano, voice, ukulele, guitar, and banjo—all online, all with heart. My lessons are full of laughter, creativity, and curious exploration. Whether we’re writing silly songs, learning chords, or belting musical theater, I’ll meet you where you are and help you grow with joy.

When I’m not making music, you can find me hiking, gardening, or figuring out how to build a yurt (yes, seriously).

Let’s make something beautiful—and maybe a little weird—together.

What Makes My Lessons Different?

With me, lessons aren’t just about playing the right notes—they’re about discovering your voice, your style, and your joy in music. Every lesson is tailored to you—whether you’re a total beginner, a curious kid, a shy singer, or a teen who wants to write songs on ukulele.

We learn through games, storytelling, creativity, and connection. Yes, you’ll build solid technique and musical understanding—but you’ll also laugh, explore, and leave each lesson feeling empowered and inspired.

Lessons are online, but always personal—because great music happens when students feel safe, seen, and supported.
